Earth PeopleNative Americans have captured Jürek's imagination since his childhood days in Poland. Consequently, he was drawn to the history and beauty of Sedona, Arizona, a place the Native American People revere as sacred.

Jürek spend his first year in Arizona on a mesa near Sedona. Surrounded by the intense spiritual energy and stunning Red Rock formations for which Sedona is famous, Jürek pondered the internal and external struggles that sculpt the faces of humanity. He reflected on historical reference to the human body as a tabernacle of clay embodying the Soul.

Jürek created material that looks and feels like slabs of rough-hewn flagstone but is neither heavy nor brittle. He painted these slabs with Sedona clay, the rich reds symbolizing passion, healing, fire and life energy. Thus his intertribal series of portraits, "Earth People", was created quite literally from the dust of the Earth.

With his trademark technical precision and sensitivity, Jürek has painted on stone what life has painted on the features of his subjects. Using gentle earth tones that bestow quiet energy on each portrait, Jürek has brought forth ancestors from sacred dust of Sedona to unveil the Human Soul.
